Tomas de los Santos, Ph.d. Professor - Department of Economics and International Business

Dr. de los Santos is a Professor of Economics at the
Department of Economics and International Business. Before joining UCO
in 1991, he taught at the University of Maine for three years after
earning his Ph.D. in economics.
Prior to that, he was a Senior Economist serving as head of the
Industrial Studies and Services Division of the National Bank of Foreign
Trade of Mexico (BANCOMEXT), and an Economist at the Joint UNIDO-NAFINSA
Capital Goods Research Project in Mexico, as well as other technical
positions in the public sector of that country. He is the author of several studies in the areas of
international economics, macroeconomic policy, and industrial sector
economic policy. His
teaching fields are international economics, economic growth and
development, microeconomics, macroeconomics, as well as other economic
courses. Dr. de los Santos
has a keen interest in observing first-hand economic development at
work. To that end, in the
last few years he has undertaken field trips to China, Ireland, Central
Mexico, and India. Dr. de los
Santos’s current research interests are in the areas of economic
development and international economics. Dr. de los Santos earned his Ph.D. in Economics from
Clark University, an M.A. in Development Economics from Boston
University, and a B.A. in
Economics from Universidad Autonoma de Nuevo Leon in Mexico.
